Paul & I are feeling really blessed as this week rolls around. Stewie is now 1 Month past his amputation! 👏👍❤️
At the beginning of this very difficult journey, before we even considered the amputation for Stewie, we were faced with only 4-6 weeks, before we had to put him to sleep, due to the extensive pain he would have been in right now.
We are celebrating LIFE with Stewie now, rather than grieving for our boy, who we would have had too short a life with! We know that we haven’t beaten the Osteosarcoma, but we feel that we have at least conquered it for a while. None of us ever know for how long, but we feel incredibly fortunate to have been given this chance with our fur baby!
Stewie’s fourth week after amputation has gone really well. He has shown us that he is adjusting quite well to becoming a Tripawd. He centres his right front leg more and I can see that it is buffing up nicely with a little extra muscle. He quite enjoys being able to surf in the back of his truck again, with is head sticking out the window, while he try’s to keep his tongue from being blown away! 👅😁
I have only been feeding Stewie twice a day now and he is hungry again for his food and will stand up and eat it, like his old self!
The funniest thing this last week was when he tried to catch the gopher out of our woodpile! His front leg and belly were to the ground, while his arse was sticking up in the air. His nose was going crazy and if I hadn’t of put him in the house, he would’ve circled that woodpile till he dropped! 🐭😤
That was his first foray back into his guard duties, otherwise, being a couch potato puts a bit of a damper on the fun of chasing away those tough deer 🦌 and those bully bears 🐻!
Stewie still gets very tired after very short walks and he tends to do most of his licking of his scar after these outings for pees and such. Otherwise he is licking far less and his scar is looking really good, plus his fur is starting to grow back nicely.
On Tuesday he goes in for blood work, to see where his white blood cells sit and then the following week, he gets his second blast, of Carboplatin chemotherapy.
I am most proud of Stewie and how far he has come this week. He really has shown how incredible dogs are at bouncing back from whatever we throw at them!
Like the Tripawds motto says… “I now feel good about what I have done for him”, rather than “good lord, what have I done to him!”
Thanks once again to the Tripawds community for being such a good support system and an excellent source of information!
Stewie tells me that he will be writing his next blog, to catch you all up on how his trips to the vet clinic go this next week.
Until then, keep your paws up and have a super Hoppy August Long Weekend! (at least it is up here in Canada! 🇨🇦)
All the very best from Super Stewie 🐾 and his pack,
Petra, Paul, Spike 🐾, Chester🐾 & Miss Lily🐾❤️

What missing leg indeed my friend. You make recovery look like a non-event. I know you’ve had your struggles as have your folks, but that hoppy look on your face tells me that it’s now behind you. YAY! Hoppy Ampuversary Super Stu! May you have a zillion trillion more 🙂

Many thanks to Jerry’s pack! I had to laugh this morning…when I got up, Stewie did his happy talking and his new excited hop and it was a side of him that I hadn’t seen in a while, so yes, the worst of that particular journey is behind us, thank goodness.
Much appreciation for the continued support. I know Stewie appreciates it, ’cause when I feel good, Stewie feels great! THANK YOU!!!
Hugs to Wyatt Ray! All the best from Stewie🐾 & his ‘happy’ Pack,

Happy One Month Ampuversary, dude!
So very happy to hear how well Stu is doing! That one month milestone feels like such a victory! Keep it up, buddy. Life only gets better and better now without that painful, good-for-nothing tumor.
Lots of puppy kisses from Skyla!
XOXO,
Rae & Skyla

Rae & Skyla,
thank you so very much for that vote of confidence! Stewie and I really appreciate it. You’re absolutely right, Stewie’s one month Ampuversary really does feel like a milestone!
He is a much more relaxed and happy puppy lately!
Stewie also says… “Crap on Cancer!”

Our 9 year old Rotteweiler also celebrates her one month ampuversary today! She,too, had bloodwork today for her next chemo dose(but it will be two weeks from today). When you say Super Stewie tires, what does he do? Last week, Bailey was going great then suddenly had a hard time getting up (her amputation was a back leg) last Thursday. I was wondering if this is a side effect of chemo, or just doing too much. Much better the last few days, thank goodness! Her primary vet checked out the leg and hip and all is well.
Super Stewie seems extra special!

Happy 1 month ampuversay Bailey!
When Stewie is tired, like today for example, he wants to do as little as possible and that even means getting up for a late breakfast!
We took him on a short walk yesterday, and on the way back, Stewie had to lay down 4 or 5 times and I realized that we had pushed him too far…
He was noticeably moving with an effort this morning, but appears to be much better this afternoon.
The chemo did seem to make him a bit more tired, but I can’t say for sure that that wasn’t the effect of his drugs?! We shall find out next week.
We’re glad to hear that you got a clear bill of health with your Rotty so far. Keep posted…
We definitely feel that he is our very special boy and he takes full advantage of the situation! 😂

Thank you so very much Sally and your beautiful alumni! You really are one of the true gems on this site!
Speaking of getting tired, we over did it a bit yesterday when we took Stew to a friends place. He absolutely knackered himself out! I feel bad, ’cause I can see how tired and slow he is today…
He will definitely be getting ice cream 🍦 for dessert today! I will get Paul to handle the camera for once! 😉
Lots of sloppy kisses to you from Stewie🐾 and his faithful pack,
Petra, Paul, Spike🐾 Chester 🐾 & Miss Lily🐾❤️

HAPPY ONE MONTH AMPUVERSARY SUPER STU!!!! 🙂 🙂 GREAT NEWS!!!! :-):-):-) You certainly are getting your sparkle back and showing everyone how to rock this three legged life!!! 🙂
Sure, Stewie gets tired quicker. It takes a lot of effort to hop around on three legs! Luckily dogs seem to love the trade-off of being a couch potato getting lots of tummy rubs, versus running a lot!!
And believe it or not, one month is still early! As well as Stewie is d doing now, you’ll still even see more of his routines return. So Deer and Gophers and Bears…..be prepared to turn and run!!
SUPER STU!!! We need even more pictures of your adoravle self!!! The ones posted above are soooo sweeet and show such a cuddly doggy!! So hiw ‘vout pictures of you celebrating your ONE MONTH AMPUVERSARY with steak and ice cream!!! You have to share with all your pack though!! 🙂
Hugs!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
